Protection Program

The war and its aftermath have created extraordinary conditions and risks for civilians. The White Helmets works diligently through all its teams to raise awareness among civilians about these risks, including fires, war remnants, early warning systems, and safety procedures, as well as disease prevention and awareness of unexploded ordnance. Additionally, the program aims to enhance community awareness and encourage social integration through scouting activities and awareness sessions, all while adhering to general human rights principles to foster a healthy society.

Since its official establishment in 2018, the Community Awareness Program has been responsible for overseeing and implementing all awareness activities across various categories (health, safety and security, and community). The program also contributes to developing plans and creative ideas, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and relevant parties.

The strategic awareness program aims to raise awareness in northwestern Syria within the framework of sustainable development. It emphasizes the role of awareness in transforming positive ideas into positive behaviors, contributing to greater community resilience and promoting recovery from the impacts of war. The program also seeks to plant the seeds of positive ideas that strengthen, unite, and heal the community, countering negative thoughts and practices that could lead to a breakdown in the community's intellectual and developmental framework.

The program offers workshops, initiatives, and awareness activities on the following topics:

General Awareness

• The importance of documenting official papers.
• The dangers of technology for children.
• The risks of drug use and child smoking.
• School dropouts and child labor.
• The importance of reforestation and preserving forest resources.
• Green energy.
• The value of initiatives and volunteer work.
• The importance of preserving historical landmarks and educating future generations about their rich historical heritage.
• Maintaining a clean environment.

Health Awareness:

Providing sessions, activities, campaigns, and initiatives on the following topics:

• Disease and epidemic prevention
• First aid
• Scorpion and snake bites
• Leishmaniasis
• Influenza
• Heatstroke
• Breast cancer
• Diabetes
• Asthma

Security and Safety Awareness

Providing sessions and activities on the following topics:

• Fire Safety: Targeted primarily at staff of organizations, medical points, camps, and schools. These sessions cover fire basics, including types of fires, suitable extinguishing materials, instructions on using fire extinguishers, understanding different types, and conducting drills when conditions permit.
• Evacuation Procedures: Guidance on what to do before, during, and after exposure to shelling, whether at home, in a vehicle, on the road, during attacks with prohibited weapons, or in cases of fires, floods, snow, and natural disasters.
• Hazards of Heaters and Swimming.
• Fires in Agricultural Fields, Forests, and Camps.

Mine and Unexploded Ordnance Awareness

Conducting sessions, activities, and campaigns focused on the dangers of unexploded ordnance and mines.

Community Awareness

 Offering sessions, workshops, activities, campaigns, and initiatives on the following topics:

• Introduction to The White Helmets
• Encouraging community participation

Early Warning Awareness

Providing sessions on The White Helmets's early warning service and how to effectively utilize it.
