City of Sarmin Under Fire: Young Girl Killed, 6 Civilians Injured in Regime Shelling

Sarmin city has suffered significantly from deliberate attacks this year. Since the beginning of the current year 2023 until October 1st, our teams have responded to 24 attacks on Sarmin city alone by regime forces

For the second consecutive day, the regime forces have intensified their rocket and artillery attacks on the city of Sarmin and several villages in eastern Idlib countryside, leading to the death of a child and injuring 6 civilians in the city of Sarmin, eastern Idlib. Syrians continue to suffer as victims of these brutal attacks carried out by government forces and Russia, while the international community remains silent, without any justice or accountability for the perpetrators of these heinous crimes.

On Wednesday, October 4th, a girl was killed and 6 civilians, including a baby, two girls, two women, and a young man, were injured due to the regime forces' missile attack on civilian homes, a mosque, and the wall of the school playground in the city of Sarmin in eastern Idlib countryside.

In conjunction with the shelling of the city of Sarmin, regime forces targeted agricultural lands and a residential house in the Wadi Al-Zahoor area on the outskirts of the town of Binnish, east of Idlib, with similar shelling. They resumed their shelling less than an hour on the city of Sarmin, targeting residential houses. The shelling also affected residential neighborhoods and the main road in the village of Al-Neirab in the same countryside. Our teams were not able to receive reports of injuries due to the continued shelling.

Yesterday, Tuesday, October 3rd, a woman and a man sustained minor injuries due to a rocket attack by regime forces that targeted civilian homes, a fuel station, a car trading office, and the outskirts of the city of Sarmin in the eastern countryside of Idlib. One of the shells hit the vicinity of the 'Hussein Haj Aboud' school while students were leaving the school, and another shell fell near our teams while they were inspecting the locations affected by the shelling.

Additionally, two civilians, an elderly man and a woman, were killed, and two others (a child and a man) were injured in a rocket attack by regime forces targeting a camp in the housing area on the outskirts of the city of Sarmin in the eastern countryside of Idlib on the evening of Saturday, September 23rd. The shelling also caused a fire in the camp, leading to the displacement of its residents.

The continuous shelling campaigns by regime forces and Russian airstrikes have instilled a state of fear and panic among civilians. Over the past month, these attacks have led to displacement from several villages and towns near regime-controlled areas due to the fear of bombardment.

Since the beginning of the current year 2023 until October 1st, our teams have responded to 757 attacks in northwestern Syria, carried out by regime forces, Russia, and attacks from areas jointly controlled by regime forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces. These attacks resulted in the death of 63 civilians, including 11 children and 6 women. Additionally, 280 civilians, including 96 children and 41 women, were injured.

Sarmin city has suffered significantly from deliberate attacks this year. Since the beginning of the current year 2023 until October 1st, our teams have responded to 24 attacks on Sarmin city alone by regime forces, using artillery shells and rockets. These attacks resulted in the death of 6 civilians, including 3 children and 2 women, and injury of 20 civilians, including 8 children and 7 women.

The regime forces and Russia concentrate their shelling on areas close to their control points in the eastern countryside of Idlib, targeting schools and public facilities intentionally to maximize casualties, including students. Additionally, they aim at hindering the efforts of the initial response teams, preventing them from reaching the bombardment sites and rescuing the victims."

Regime forces and Russia's continuous shelling in civilian areas only seeks to instill fear among civilians, disrupting their daily lives. It is imperative for the international community to halt these deadly terrorist attacks and take a stand against those responsible for these systematic crimes against the Syrian people, holding them accountable.
