Statement from the White Helmets on the Launch of the "Hope for Returnees:Towards a Safe Return for the Displaced" Campaign

The White Helmets announces the launch of an operational service campaign titled "Hope for Returnees:Towards a Safe Return for the Displaced" aimed at facilitating the safe return of displaced people to their homes in areas that have been affected by conflict or where residents have been forcibly displaced.

The campaign will begin Sunday, December 1st, starting from the western countryside of Aleppo and the eastern countryside of Idlib. The operation will follow a geographically organized approach, ensuring a steady and safe logistical supply for the teams. No specific timeframe has been set for the campaign, given the rapidly evolving situation, which could lead to significant changes in the response efforts.

This initiative is part of a broader program to expand the White Helmets' operations in line with the organization's capacity and the urgent humanitarian needs on the ground.

The campaign will focus on four main areas:

  1.  Clearing roads blocked by bombing to allow the safe movement of civilians and humanitarian workers, particularly between homes, vital facilities, schools, and hospitals.
  2. Removing war debris to enable residents to rehabilitate their homes and utilize their agricultural land.
  3.  Recovering the bodies of the deceased, documenting them, and burying them according to safety standards and identification protocols.
  4. Providing emergency medical and essential health services.

The White Helmets reaffirms its commitment to supporting local populations and believes that the safe return of displaced Syrians is crucial in alleviating their needs, promoting stability, and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.
